Sometimes people think punches that land on the arms are scoring blows. This is definitely a pet peeve and it happens in both the pros and amateurs. Even the best camera operator may not capture what is truly happening. Again, this is why there are three (pro) to five (amateur) judges. When fighters are in close or locked up, no one can see what punches land and count better than the judges вЂ“ even then, only some of the judges can see depending on where the action is in the ring. Sometimes it looks like a punch landed but in reality it came within inches or less. Sometimes the punch just rolls off the opponentвЂ™s arm or shoulder. Conversely, sometimes a punch doesnвЂ™t land with the intensity that is perceived by those not judging. Sometimes a punch lands much harder than what is seen by those sitting ringside or at home. After sitting in a judgeвЂ™s chair for nearly three years, I can confidently say there are a number of things judges can see that others cannot. Scoring a fight is said to be subjective, but the criteria does not leave much room for interpretation.

If it is their first or final professional fight If they have received a вЂњgiftвЂќ decision or been вЂњrobbedвЂќ in the past If they made weight or had a drastic weight change overnight Their behaviour out of the ring or police record This may be stating the obvious, but these factors should not to be used to score a fight:

Understands when their strategy didnвЂ™t work and adjusts.Suffers knockdown in previous round yet comes back stronger.Loses the previous round yet comes back stronger.Forces the action and sets the tempo of the round.Controls the round with a combination of attack and defence scores cleanly while defending against counterpunching.Takes and maintains role of вЂњeffective aggressorвЂќ.Displays superior defence (blocking, slipping, weaving, good footwork).Neutralises the style and type of boxer.Controls the ring and pace of action вЂ“В ring generalship.Throws effective counter punches and stands the opponent off.Causes opponent to miss and makes them vulnerable to punches.ItвЂ™s important to note that hitting the opponentвЂ™s arms or gloves is not a quality blow and a judge may never assume anything if a fighter has their back turned. Judge must have clear vision of the punch.Punch connects while not infringing on the rules.Punch connects cleanly (not picked, parried, or blocked).Punch must connect in the correct (scoring) area of the body.Punch is thrown with the weight of the body or shoulder.Punch connects with the knuckle surface of the glove.i got in the 170s in both my packrats however but just had anxieties get in the way of test day. i am having very similar anxieties as you right now! had many stresses and distraction prior to taking the pance this week and came out realizing i made soooo many dumb mistakes and didnвЂ™t know some information. and I'm probably another week and a half out from finding out my results. I keep thinking about how hard the exam was, how I made stupid mistakes, etc. I'm just an absolute wreck right now waiting for my results. I read some threads on here to try and quell my stress, and people that had scores of 180 on packrat were worried, so of course I'm freaking out. I already have a job lined up, and with the extra pressure to pass the first time, my test anxiety was through the roof.
